UK Immigration Authorities Grants Supplementary Visas for UCL Overseas Learners
Hundreds international learners will successfully take up their guaranteed places following negotiations involving the Home Office and University College London concluded with the government issuing supplementary entry permits.
Immigration Allowance Difficulties
Hundreds of students, a significant number from the Chinese mainland, were stuck in a difficult situation after University College London miscalculated the applications for places this year and exceeded its allowance of confirmation of acceptance for studies electronic documents authorized by the immigration authorities.
University Statement of Remorse and Assistance
the institution issued an apology to those impacted, informing them it was "deeply regretful for the disturbance and uncertainty", and offering to cover £1,000 expenses for submissions made through British visa authorities' "super priority service".
We're happy to guarantee our impacted international students that they can now begin their education at our university.
Unprecedented Applications
The educational establishment said "an exceptional rise in interest" was the reason behind the surplus intake, and had originally told students with guaranteed places that they should defer until the following academic year, causing many to voice dissatisfaction they encountered financial losses after advance payment for transportation and accommodation.
Positive Outcome
Following negotiations between University College London and the immigration authorities at the close of last weekend, scholars were informed that they would obtain visas in the end.
An official representative for the institution said: "We sincerely apologise to all those who have been affected by the ongoing doubt and we are exceptionally thankful for their understanding. Our personnel are now moving rapidly to communicate with students directly with news and help.
Learner Reactions
Some learners reported they had received digital communications from UCL within the last two days saying their CAS documents would be issued, a key necessity to be awarded a study permit. Some mentioned they had not yet received official notice.
An applicant expressed: "I'm thrilled to be able to pursue education in the Britain. We were informed various pieces of information since the previous month, it was extremely difficult. I was already bound to arranging accommodation in the city, with no repayment available, so I am extremely grateful."
Geographic Impact
Approximately 200 learners from the Chinese mainland were impacted, with several already in the UK at the close of last month for the beginning of the educational period. Those on master's programs were informed they required to be on campus by 10 October or lose their spot.
We cannot thank you enough for your understanding with this process and we are truly apologetic for the inconvenience and confusion which this will have generated you.
