The England manager Questions Wembley Fan Atmosphere Following Emphatic Win Over Wales.
The England head coach expressed his regret that the England team did not get greater backing from the home spectators during their decisive 3-0 friendly victory on Thursday evening.
The manager was satisfied to see his squad maintain their good form, with goals from Morgan Rogers, Watkins, and Saka inside the first 20 minutes deciding the match. Yet, he was not content with the atmosphere at the national stadium.
“With one and a half sessions to prepare against a organized team and we performed excellently,” the coach stated. “We could have been five goals ahead at the break. We couldn’t score the additional ones. There was little noise. We didn’t get support from the crowd. We did everything to win.”
“What more can you give in the first quarter? We prevented them escape. If you hear just Wales fans for 30 minutes, it’s disappointing because the squad deserved more support today.”
“I maintain my words. We cannot do more than being three goals up in a rivalry match. I hoped for a bit more backing in phases where it gets difficult.”
“In the second half, to support us, there was excessive support for Wales. It might have aided us to refocus, but it is what it is and so be it.”
Squad Decisions Justified by Performance
Away from potentially starting a fight with fans, the manager also created controversy by omitting Jude Bellingham and Phil Foden from his squad. However the move was justified by Morgan Rogers delivering another standout performance in the attacking midfield role and netting his maiden goal for his country.
“He plays his game,” the head coach said. “He is a No 10 and he is vying for his spot.”
Bellamy Hopes for Improvement from Loss
The Wales manager expressed hope that his team, who face a strong Belgian side in a key World Cup qualifier on Monday, learn from their awful first-half display.
“This is why I scheduled this game,” Bellamy said. “I need to see where we are. Where do we want to go? Who do we want to be? Today fills me with motivation.”
Fitness Worry for Striker
Ollie Watkins was withdrawn at the break after clattering into a post and will be a doubt when the national team face Latvia in the Latvian capital in a qualifier on Tuesday.
