One-time NFL Star Antonio Brown Enters Innocent Plea in Murder Attempt Trial

Former NFL player Antonio Brown is heading to Miami to confront an murder attempt allegation stemming from a gunfire that occurred in May, as his counsel filing a innocent plea on his behalf.

Detention records in Essex, New Jersey, show that Brown was released on Tuesday morning for his move to the state of Florida. Brown, one of the most popular athletes in the National Football League, had waived transfer to Florida from New Jersey, where he was held after being arrested in the city of Dubai.

Brown’s attorney, Mark Eiglarsh, said in an communication that he has previously submitted a documented not guilty response to the attempted murder accusation. Brown could be in a Miami courtroom as soon as Wednesday morning for a release hearing, Eiglarsh stated.

As per his arrest warrant, Brown is charged of taking a firearm from a protection guard after a star fighting contest in May and firing multiple shots at a person he had clashed with previously. The reported victim, Zul-Qarnain Kwame Nantambu, stated to authorities that one of the bullets touched his neck.

Eiglarsh asserted that Brown was simply protecting himself from Nantambu.

“The actions he was forced to take were solely in defense against the claimed individual’s hostile behavior. Brown was attacked that evening and acted within his legal right to defend himself,” Eiglarsh said.

Brown was not immediately arrested because at first officers did not identify Nantambu as a victim. It wasn’t until subsequently in May that Nantambu gave a full account about the situation to officers and pointed out Brown as the perpetrator, the document states.

According to his online posts, Brown had been living in Dubai for a number of weeks. In a update after the confrontation, Brown said he was protecting himself because he was “assaulted by several people who sought to take my valuables and cause physical injury to me.”

A second-degree murder attempt allegation in the state of Florida carries a highest 15-year prison sentence and up to a $10,000 fine in the event of a guilty verdict.

Brown has dealt with multiple judicial issues over the years. He previously had been alleged of physical attack of a vehicle employee, various abuse accusations, failure to pay child support and other events.

Throughout a 2021 contest with his team against the New York Jets, Brown stripped off his jersey, shoulder pads and gloves and ran off the stadium, leading to his termination by the Buccaneers and effectively concluding his NFL career.

Brown, who completed 12 years in the league, was an All-Pro receiver who devoted most of his tenure with the Steelers. During his time, Brown had over 900 receptions for more than twelve thousand two hundred ninety-one yards, the twenty-eighth greatest of record. He was a seven-time all-star selection.
